Welcome to Mrs Paterson's Picture Books

So many picture books, so little time.

So many wonderful ones.

So many dreadful ones.

This blog is about the wonderful ones, but there is a word on the dreadful ones too, just to provide some context...

Piggybook

Piggybook by Anthony Browne

One of the earliest truly feminist picture-books, first published in 1986. Mr Piggott and his two sons behave like pigs to poor Mrs Piggott - until, finally, she walks out. Left to fend for themselves, the male Piggotts undergo some curious changes! Thought-provoking and funny, with creepy, hidden details in the illustrations, a tale about fairness and family cooperation. Watch out for the surprise on the last page; what is that smudge on mum's cheek?
