Welcome to Mrs Paterson's Picture Books

So many picture books, so little time.

So many wonderful ones.

So many dreadful ones.

This blog is about the wonderful ones, but there is a word on the dreadful ones too, just to provide some context...

The Princess Knight

The Princess Knight  by Cornelia Funke
and Kerstin Meyer

Violetta is a little princess who wants to be as strong and brave as her brothers.  She goes about her training in a quiet, determined way, and slowly masters the art of noble knighthood. Then to her horror she discovers that she is to be married off to a stranger, in accordance with ancient tradition. With the help of her maid she devises a brilliant trick and turns her fate upside down. This book has a quite unique atmosphere, spirited but emotionally nuanced, with lovely delicate illustrations.
